NARRATIVE BEHIND 'REALITY'

As a developing young artist with an aspiration to make a difference within society, in terms of making sure everyone is treated equally and fairly regardless of their gender, age or social/cultural background, I feel that developing an unconventional music video through the genre of protest is a majestical idea that should cause the audience to accept and reflect, by placing themselves in the shoes of these misunderstood individuals or groups.

My narrative is driven by the harrowing subject matter of CHILD ABUSE/NEGLECT – a topic I feel is underrepresented and arguably forgotten about due to the profound emphasis placed on more common issues within society.

The story evolves around a young girl who has been receiving constant abuse and neglect from her parents, from the visuals there will be evidence of all forms of abuse e.g. mental, physical etc. The audience will be taken on a journey to illustrate the pain and suffering the young girl experiences daily, reinforcing the importance of the subject in the hope that they consider the 'reality' of experiencing abuse from such a young age. Furthermore, by showing a 'day in the life' if you will, of what this young girl has to compete with it should cause the audience to realise that her suffering isn't unitary meaning there are many others who experience the same daily battle - concluding the significance of protesting over this topic.

As we move throughout the narrative, the visuals of the young girl attempting to escape the abuse combined with the longingness for a better life will be evident from her facial expressions and body language. At times she can be seen to fight against her parents which demonstrates that she is strong and isn't going to give up until she is free of this trauma. With these visuals combining with the audio, it will further reinforce the 'reality' from experiencing abuse and neglect, declaring that the effects are detrimental for future emotional and intellectual developments.

Eventually after we are shown more visuals of her daily battles she will manage to escape when the door to the room she has been held hostage in hasn't been locked correctly. This sense of relief is profoundly illustrated through her facial expressions as she frantically runs away from her horrors - the first sense of freedom for both the girl herself and the audience. Once free of her horrendous environment she seeks help from outsiders and is placed with a loving carer in the hope of the start to a new exciting and happy beginning!
